Man … this post was so honest; it brought me to tears. The constant feeling of disappointment and grief I’ve held whilst simultaneously telling myself to “buck up” and be happy is hard because of the performative joy you named. To know there’s another way, one that’s more authentic for me, feels deeply relieving. We don’t have to pretend and contort ourselves into the masks we sometimes wear. ❤️
I honestly think this is part of why learning presence matters so much and a lot of what we’ve been practicing together through the monthly meditations. It helps us stay connected to ourselves and to what’s real and alive while life is still unfolding. Otherwise, we can become so focused on forcing what hasn’t arrived yet that we miss the meaning, care, and aliveness that still exist here, too.
